It's definitely easier to go through the utility door. All I did was drill some pilot holes first to make sure there wasn't a metal skin to the door (turns out it's all foam insulation with plastic edges) and then use the template that came with the cat flap to jigsaw a hole. Happy to help/advise as and when you need it. edit: you can actually see where I drilled a small hole and then realised afterwards it was too low, oops! Easily sorted though with a touch of white silicone. Thanks Rich, that looks very professional. I think I might give it a go Hi Rich Ordered the cat flap ready for the weekend of freedom for the cats :-). Did you use a hack saw to take out the bit of door to put the flap in? Just checking what tools we'll need :-)

It's my dad's but I think it's still in my garage if you wanted to borrow it? Happy to help if you need it.

Thanks Rich, my Dad has one, so not a problem :-) Cool. You'll get a template to help you cut a neat hole. I'd just drill a few pilot holes first in the area you intend on cutting just to check that there are no obstructions.

Hi Ann
Do you have internet?
A little worried with the issues a lot of residents are having in getting connected to the internet, I work from home, so its imperative I have internet connection straight away.
In addition, if you're up and running with internet who did you go with?
Thanks Teresa
Hi Teresa, Did you manage to sort the internet out? Or have any ideas when it will be able to be connected? Cheers Hi, got an email from Dave the site manager explaining now the scaffolding has been taken down outside plot 266 they can start to build the box for BT Openreach, he expected to have this done by mid May then BT Openreach would need to attend to connect it all, plus connect the houses, so I wouldn't expect anything until the June. Best thing to do is the more people who Chase BT and Virgin the better as this will get things moving very quicker, plus more people chasing Harron Homes HQ the better. I've put a link in this thread which takes you to a form for BT Openreach, fill that out, it will also help.

Latest update from Dave, the box is ready for BT Openreach to install phone and internet lines. He's now waiting on them to give him an install date, if everyone could chase BT Openreach for an update, I'm sure they'll get fed up and get there people here pronto :-).

FYI for those contacting BT Openreach about phone and internet connection, this is the email address I've been using newsitedevelopmentqueries@openreach.co.uk. The more noise from customers the better:-)

The BT Openreach engineers are fitting the boxes to the outside of the properties, once they've done this they need access to the inside of the properties to connect everything up inside and install the connection point.
After this the guy said once they've commissioned the work, it will be two weeks before you can order service via your service provider, so were definitely looking at the first week in June before we will be able to order services, then I believe it usually takes another two weeks to get the connection, which would mean we should be connected with the outside world by mid June.
hope this helps

Let me know if you need any help or advice regarding cat flaps. I fitted ours and it only cost £12 from Amazon. Hi. Just looking for some advice. Our door is not flat (timber door with raised panels set between stiles/muntins) so outer frame of cat flap will sit up against the central muntin leaving gaps where the panels are set back either side. Does this pose a risk of rain penetrating the door? With a flat door it would be easy to run sealant around cat flap outer frame. I don't see that this would work with cat flat fitted to irregular surface. I presume the cat flat forms a seal of sorts as long as the hole is cut perfectly?? Thanks,
