Just a reminder about tonight folks. There'll be a few of us walking round from the playground at about 6:10 if you want to join us. Otherwise see you there.

It's the fist building on your left as you turn off the roundabout onto Brunel Way.

Hi everyone, unfortunately I couldn't attend due to illness. Would be good if someone could post a flavour of the discussion and feedback on points raised. If too much to go through,I understand, just gutted to have not been able to attend.

Here's what I remember. I also did a lot of talking (my bad if it was too much or I spoke over anyone) about harworth and Barrett.
So Duncan from Harworth gave an overview of the estate etc. So highlights for me were: - 1 primary school will be built once around 750 homes are occupied. There are currently about 350. There was a planning stage at 550 occupied homes. - the majority of roads will eventually be adopted by the highways agency - hs2 is delaying development of the east side towards catcliffe - the commercial area is being proposed next to the AMRC / pub. There will be a supermarket of approx 12000 square feet. So like an m and s or aldi size. There was some resistance to this due to traffic concerns. But Harworth think it will be better than people having to drive through the estate to get there. - Highfield lane will be connected to catcliffe and will be a through road with a school on it. It's barely wide enough as it is. Some concerns about traffic. Calming measures might be implemented.
Then it was a session with Barrett and their architects around 2 tables. Everyone knows the issues. Big one being parking. They said they had taken this on board and created 5 yes 5 extra spaces by the road near the substation.
Basically they had no answers. They were there to "listen". In my opinion this was a tick box exercise and nothing is likely to change. Utter bs! Harworth understandably want to sell the land to developers and that's it. Rotherham council want higher density.
Some suggestions/comments I remember: - only 1 parking space per flat. They seemed to think that was acceptable - based on a bus that doesn't get run - my gf pointed out that it is a great location for commuting, but not just to Sheffield hence alot of people are likely to have 2 cars. Doncaster, Barnsley. Actually half my office (work at AMRC) commute from Leeds, so its reasonable people might be going further afield.
I'm sure I've forgotten some stuff but people can add or correct if I got anything wrong.
It actually went on till 9! Although I think me, my partner, Dan, Sam and alison were the last to leave.

I couldn't believe the plan of a 12000 square foot supermarket (the average size of an Aldi) at the entrance of Waverley when we have Morrisons, Asda and Aldi around the corner! It's going to destroy the look of the community, the traffic is going to increase coming in and out to use the facility, what's next a drive thru mc Donald's? It's a joke!

Sounds depressing. I suspect the front of the estate will be remarkably similar to that at Manvers. As for opening up a connecting road from Catcliffe to Highfield Spring, that road will be murder with rat runners, on road parking from the proposed apartments and school traffic. Oh and it will fragment the estate having a busy road running down the middle.
Wife and I will continue to watch developments carefully.

Hope it doesn't come to it but like you, we wont be hanging around if things continue. We have spare land opposite us and recent events have not filled us with confidence.

They said the road linking catcliffe to Handsworth has always been there but it was a straight road. The agreement has always been that it would be reopened eventually. The plan is to put a 'dog leg' in so that it won't be any quicker than using the main road. Personally, I think that once the traffic builds up at rush hour times, there will be lots of idiots rat running to avoid standing in queues. The overall feeling is that the plans will be agreed regardless of how many people object. Our arguments have to be around the parking issues to stand any chance of the plans being amended. When put on the spot and asked if she would like to live in the shadow of the 4 storey building, one of the architects actually admitted that she wouldn't. Need I say more? Apparently, the Grassington on Oak Dene Way (just below the Hanleys) hasn't had a contract exchanged on it yet. I hope that the prospective buyers see this thread and seriously consider their plans to buy. For us it's too late to back out and we have had a double whammy this week, having been told that our 13 year old son can't go to either of the schools we had requested due to over subscription. The dream is beginning to look like a nightmare.

The dream is beginning to look like a nightmare. Hi Alison We had a similar problem with schools. When I spoke with Counsillor Hughes he offered help with our appeal in to the school and even offered to attend with us. In the end we had already decided to move our children elsewhere before we realised he could help and since we didn't want to unearth all the emotion with our children to move again we left it. But I'd imagine he would help you in a similar way. If you have an appeal pending I'd suggest you contact him.
