Hi all, I'm due to meet Duncan at Harworth soon to discuss arrangements for a Waverley Gala day in the Summer. Some of you may be aware that an event took place last year which was deemed a huge success and we'd like to arrange another event for this summer. The primary purpose is to encourage potential residents to Waverley but it will also be an opportunity to have some fun! We'd like to try and arrange it for sometime in August, after the pub has been completed so we can get their buy-in. This is the flyer from last year to give you an idea of what went off: Therefore please let me know on this thread if you have any suggestions and I will suggest them at the meeting.

What a fantastic idea! Didn't realise there had been one last year, as we weren't even considering a move at that point. Will have a think on any ideas and suggestions.

Hi Rich, thinking but not sure of the scope!! Kids rides always go down well, even the small ones, could you get a small fair to commit to attending? With regards to stalls, have you invited Bluebell Wood as the local Children's Hospice to attend and allow them to fundraise? The guys who do the inflatable sumo wrestlers is always good for a laugh, as are the water zorbing rides. At least these guys will be making money so may not charge a lot to attend if anything? Are there any of the old colliery bands in existence, although I see you have live music listed last year. You could invite the local TA unit to put a stand on, Rotherham is REME and Sheffield is Infantry. They will need plenty of notice however to get approval. My thoughts anyway!

Maybe some sort of competition for the kids or residents. Something to get everyone involved. Everyone loved dressing there homes at halloween and Christmas so maybe something to work with there?

Hi Rich, I work at a primary school and we've held many a do! Fancy dress is always a fun competition also we have a few dogs on the estate maybe could have a Waverley hound, we could ask Morrisons, Boundary Mill, Whitbys and JTF if they would donate prizes. Perhaps a local dance studio or theatre group may like to put on a show. There are lots of games which could involve all members of the family like tug of war, goals, throwing wet sponges at the builders lol...just a thought :-)

Maybe sack race for children and adults or a five aside football for anyone who fancies their chances. Best cake competition but the entrants have to pay an entry fee. Even though it isn't Halloween Apple dunking. A fancy dress for adults children. Karaoke competition. Beautiful baby competition . Gala quiz maybe fun. raffles any donations for a guess cuddle bears name . Meet and greet station or a mini Waverley's got talent type of comp.

Some great ideas so far.
I love the idea of a 'Waverley Hound', hadn't thought of that one.
My girls go to a local dance school at Treeton, let me know if you want me to ask them about putting a show on. They might be interested as it could be a way to generate more numbers locally.

Thanks for the ideas folks, I'll mention them to Duncan. There might be some issues with Health & Safety though, since most of the site is under development and we don't have playing fields for games of football etc.

We've pencilled in Sunday the 10th August for the Gala day. Hope you all can make it.
I'll post more details when we have them. It's not too late if you still have ideas, just post them here.

I went to the gala last year, and although a bit scarce in content , it was nice to meet others who had moved here as there were not many of us here back then. It would be great to have another. What's the deadline on stalls etc?

Book other events like bands, ice cream van, fire engine etc. Book mayor or leader of Rotherham Council to open event. Decide on running order of events. By end of June Start marketing and PR. Get all booking sorted. By end of July Have everything sorted.
