I was running round the lakes this morning and had an idea on how we could get people to attend the gala who wouldn't otherwise be interested. What about a running event on the day? Running is becoming more and more popular with people these days and i'm sure we would be able to get at least 50 to 100 people to enter (and bring their friends and family with them). Afterwards they might even take a look around the show homes! These would be people that probably wouldn't attend the gala otherwise and might not even know the new estate exists. We could do a 5k (3 miles) run around the lakes and a shortly 2k family walk/fun run.
I've not arranged anything like this before but would be happy to put myself forward to try and co-ordinate it. I'd be happy to speak with the local running club (the Handsowrth Road Hogs) to ask if they would be able to assit withthe setup and control.
The Brinsworth 10k has been held on the same day as the Brisnworth gala for the past few years and it worked really well!

Sounds like a great idea. I'll mention it to Duncan unless you'd rather contact him yourself?

We're not 'official' residents yet (curent plan is we get our house sometime in July), but would still be happy to get involved if this is allowed? :-)
Would be happy to contact Duncan to get the wheels moving when a diffinative date for the gala has been agreed, but would also be more than happy for you to bring the topic up rich.
Let me know when and if you want me to 'get on it' and I'll put the effort in :-)

Hi Rich
Quick update... a colleague of mine at work knows the guys at handsworth road hogs quite well and mentioned the potential of holding a run on gala day when he saw them a few nights ago. They think it's a great idea and in principle would be happy to get involved.
They're going to bring it up at a committee meeting on Thursday as a topic for discussion.
Let me know if you want me to put the brakes on this!
However, if it was something you wanted to do we would have to get going fairly quickly to be able to do the marketing and drum up interest.
Cheers Paul

Hi Paul
Still think it's a good idea. I've sent a note to Duncan to make him aware and will advise if there are any concerns.
Thanks for the nudge.

Ok. Thanks rich.
Will look into things further. Might need to speak with someone at harworth estates soonish about routes etc... Could do with being able to run around the lakes and back without having to go onto the roads as that will save extra hassle getting police road blocks etc. at present there isn't really a route (from what I can work out) that can get you from the estate and back without either going onto the main road footpath or going over scrub land.
Unless anyone knows otherwise?
Paul

Hi Paul,
Duncan is happy with the idea and would like to understand more so at this stage it's probably best if you contact him direct.
Cheers
