Good to know. It'll be nice to see the future of Waverley in its development. We received this on a printed card with the post today, I'm assuming that we aren't the only ones. I'm sure we'll all have one before long ?

Note to self... Don't use emoticons! It makes you look like you're aggressively asking a question when you actually meant to smile 0_o

Wel looks like we'll have everything we need right here. Just need the 'promised' school now and then none of us would have to leave the estate... At all!!!!

Any details? I couldn't make it back in time for it.

Any details? I couldn't make it back in time for it. Shops, community and retail units with apartments above, looked ok but they are pushing the number of apartments to the limit again (68) with minimal parking provision. Not sure if they will get the speakers on the mosque past planning in a residential area though.

I am glad I made the effort to go to this today. Everything looked good on the plans. Didn't think to look at the parking provision though.
The OAP retirement village looked good. Might reserve a place.

I thought it all looked promising. Nursery, gym, smaller supermarket, play area, school. These are things that the families of Waverley need. And eventually an old folks home!

Overall I am positive too about the plans but I do have some concerns having seen the drawings and discussed a few things with them.
Firstly, I agree with the comment above regards the possibility of a concrete jungle should they try to cram too much into this space, the new church will be going here too bear in mind. Adequate parking space and good landscaping is vital to prevent overspill onto Mitchell Way/Stephenson Way. limited apartments above the units may not necessarily be a bad thing as it keeps the area occupied 24/7 and can deter evening\night time anti social behaviour.
The playground on the site will be removed, this was always a temporary facility until Highwall park was built. However that is still some years off and the kids have little space to play in as it is. They assured me that this would be moved to another temp location but did not know where this would be yet.
The food store is to be around 15,000 sq/m (Morrisons is about 45,000 sq/m as a comparison). No operators have signed up to this yet but the intention is to get either a Sainsbury's/M&S local type store there or a Lidl or Aldi. Now for me there is a big difference between these two types, one would be a local store serving the local community, the other two are supermarkets that serve a much wider community. I shop at the Aldi at Handsworth from time to time and have seen how busy that is at weekends, at mid-day it is not uncommon to see queues of cars going all the way down the street waiting to get into the car park. They have a just in time model for stocking food which means frequent artic lorry deliveries which would have to enter the site via Stephenson Way. An Aldi or Lidl would serve a far greater catchment area (eg Catcliffe,Brinsworth,Orgreave,Woodhouse) which would bring a lot more traffic onto the site and through the surrounding roads.
What does everyone else think about this?

Errrm No to Aldi and Lidl and yes to M&S or Sainsburys! There is a red for a proper play area with so many families on Waverley now. Nothing flash just some allocated space until the permanent park goes in.
