Was having a nosey at the new houses Harron are building, was astonished to see they are only giving a single drives to people buying settles (4 bed detached, I think that's there names)... They are selling those for over a quarter of a million and anyone buying one will have minimum 2 cars upwards. They give a minimum double drive even with their much cheaper town houses!
If I had bought one I wouldn't be happy, drive would be widened one way or another... wonder if people realised this when buying? Or was this one of Harrons surprises...

Yeah that is poor and if the garage is anything like ours it'll be too small to fit anything bigger than a super-mini. There's no wonder people are forced to park their cars on the road.

That's crazy! I think now most people have two cars regardless of house size. We live in a kinnersley and have two cars. One would have to park on the road if we didn't have a long drive. Ours is still one car wise but long enough for 3!
It's one think I liked with harron, the drives, the grass verges, and front gardens. Just a lot more traditional. When I opposed the planning application I mentioned this. They've started to become a little tight with what you get land wise.

I asked this before with the planners and it's to do with planning guidelines that determines how many spaces a property as. TW are the only developer who offer all homes 2 spaces. Most of the others are 1.5. Tw have a larger green space within their development where the others are more heavily populated. They do some kind of caulation of open space areas that the determines how many spaces they can have.

I don't know how that works, but if you look at most Harron Homes, they have minimum 3 spaces (including garage) up to maximum of 8 I've counted... So they don't apply a 1.5 rule in reality... People buying settles are being shortchanged

We can comfortably park 4 cars on our drive and one in the garage.
Then we have the front garden as well well, not that we would ever want to park a car there there...
That was a big deciding factor for us to pick our plot. We don't have 5 Cars but it's handy to have the space when we have visitors etc :-)

And sell town houses for 200k with 4 spaces... Odd!

We bought a Canterbury and are still going to have to widen the drive, which is a shame. Its currently a nightmare when we have visitors... feels like we're taking over the street!!
