There is currently a locksmith on the estate, we had ours changed last night as the locks that Harron Homes fit aren't safe. We have been meaning to get them changed since we moved in as they aren't child friendly above everything else, there is no key to lock the inside which if you are upstairs your child could unlock it and run off so came at the right time really.
If anyone else is in the process of buying a new house and have kids have a look into locks.
As well as that with the locks Harron Homes put on and you tick the normal box on the insurance for the locks that should be the right one you won't be covered as the lock has got to have two sides to put a key in.
Just a bit of info for people buying. Xx

There's been several threads about the Harron locks. It's easy and cheaper to change locks yourself rather than paying someone, it's only two screws and it costs about £40 from B&Q for a very good lock.
I think Harron argued that the thumb wheel lock is for safety purposes, as in if your house is on fire you don't need to go running around looking for a key.

We paid £55 for him to change ours which wasn't bad and it's got a ten year guarantee on it. With three keys. Xx

It was always on my mind from moving in as my two year old likes fiddling with things like that and when you have a three storey house you can't hear nothing from the top and there is always the odd chance of him turning it and going and the chain won't stop him as he can squeeze through that. As well as that the ones Harron Homes fit are easier for someone to put something through the letterbox to turn them. Xx

I always get a bit nervous about that chap selling locks to over 80% of the houses on the estate... I always worry that the locks might actually come with 4 keys... and he's going to sell a key to hundreds of people's houses (including addresses) to a professional burglar in 2 years time for 20 grand and run away to Barbados!
I know just my overactive mind, but it's a interesting thought :-)

Yep no probs his number is 07721392241 or 01977 610021 his names Phil Simpson. He's on the estate at the moment and probably will be coming your way over the next couple of days as he said he only works evenings and weekends, it was around 6pm when he came to us. Defo worth getting though xx

Paul does have a point. Not saying the guy is untrustworthy, I don't know him from Adam, but that's exactly the reason why I'd be careful. Make him show you a brand new unopened box so you can verify that all they keys are there.
