We are in the process of buying the Nidderdale and want to know whether the living rooms are warm enough to go without a fireplace - thinking about the winter months. The one radiator looks small and don't know if we should get a connection. Any other advice about this type of house is welcome. Thanks!

Our house is probabaly smaller, but once the radiators come on it warms up pretty fast and stays warm for ages.

We also don't have a Nidderdale, but we've always found our HH to be really warm.

We have a larger sized lounge and didn't have any problems in a freezing cold winter. We have two small radiators at either end of the room, both of which kicked out a decent amount of heat.

No need for a fireplace... Too old fashioned! (Sits back and expects a backlash for this one)

Lol, Well we're in our sixties and probably will be the oldest residents on the estate!

All the houses on here are built to the same energy standards and they are very efficient, even in the winter we barely have our heating on.

Hi We have a tiny radiator down one end of our living room (not a Nidderdale) but it kicks out more heat than I ever thought it would do. We've also got a thermostat for the heating in the living room so I'm not sure how that would work if we had a fire in there with it? Maybe worth checking where yours will be located?

In my experience HH are very warm houses and I've been very pleasantly surprised by the reduced running costs compared to my previous house built circa 1912. Building regs have certainly improved since then.

Our HH is always very warm.
There are some excellent fireplaces out there to make a feature of however I think for providing heat it will be mainly redundant.
Also to consider is the location of your house, our front is south facing so it heats up all day in the summer and gets the limited sunshine in the winter. If your living room is facing another direction, especially North (over towards Sheffield centre) then that will have an impact.

That should be over towards Brinsworth / Rotherham!
