I wasn't saying that Rich, just that we need to think a bit about what we post and who can see it. I could point out to you the homes of about a dozen members of this forum that I don't know personally but who have posted lots of info about themselves that identifies them, their actual names, descriptions of their homes, their house numbers, their cctv, their locks, their cars, their gym habits, their plot no's. Not all posted at the same point in time but it's on there, Anyway, just saying, that's all. As a side note, I understand where you're coming from, and I think you're only posting this because you care... :-)

I think we need to get these crimes into perspective. Whilst they are distressing when they happen, they aren't on a big scale and we only know about them because of this lovely group. Where I currently live, my (Swann) cctv camera recorded 4 break ins of my local chemist over a 4 week period and I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg but I don't KNOW what that because we don't know anyone further than 2 doors down despite living here for 20+ years.
The crime prevention evening is a great idea and if it prompts a neighbourhood watch scheme, then even better! :-)

For the record I didn't delete teddyowner and never would delete anyone over a disagreement. Fwiw, I agree with his comments that there have been security leaks on here for a while now and that people need to take extra care over what they post. Having spent a fair bit of time setting this up and delivering leaflets, along with a few kind others, in order to help people in the community, the suggestion that this itself was a security issue was one that I completely disagreed with. Especially considering that such a small percentage of the residents are likely to come. Teddy, if you read this then get yourself back! No hard feelings from me

I had my house broken into and 2 brand new cars stolen ... thats pretty big scale to me Its concerning that there seems to be an exponential rise of vehicle crime in the area and hopefully it will subside or vanish completely once they notice the network of CCTV going around the estate. I'd like to go to the meeting but I dont think Ill be able to make it ... Will someone post some brief details on what was discussed etc please

teddyowner: I don't think you should leave the site over something like this. I also agree with you about it not being wise to post too many personal details on the public forum. In the end, its each person's choice what they want to put out there. Personally, I'm not going to be posting my address and things like when I'm likely to be in or out of the house. Details of what CCTV system I am going to get will probably be posted to help others - I don't think the thieves can use this information against me. There has obviously been a recent influx of new residents including myself and maybe everyone's a little excited. It's refreshing to hear sound minded individuals proposing ideas to stop issues before they really get started and to share information about things that all new home buyers need to do. Security wise, this website has helped me change my front door locks, consider CCTV, purchase blinds (yes for security), and keep a look out for thugs on the development.

At the end of the day you'll never stop crime.
Banks are pretty secure yet they still get robbed.
The more affluent the area the bigger the target. The current activities don't really put me off living here. We used to live in a pretty bad area and thefts weren't that common (mainly as the locals were in the posh areas doing the stealing), but anti social behaviour, vandalism and drugs were rife though. Some times even I found it a bit intimidating walking to the local shop, others would only ever drive even though it was a 5mins walk. Thankfully Waverley has non of these problems and is a very pleasant and safe area to live :-D but it's never going to be perfect.
All we can do is take as many precautions to deter them as much as possible. Most of the crime so far on here seems pretty opertunistic They will go round trying car doors hoping someone forgot to lock their car. and looking through the windows to see if there is anything worth taking. A tool box, a bag etc. All may contain valuables. Keep nothing of value in your cars, or anything that even looks like it might be valuable. A gym bag with sweaty gym kit, no real value to you but until the thieves break in and look through the bag from the outside of the car it could have anything in it, a phone, wallet etc. Another good tip leave your glove box open to show there is nothing in there as well. Then they will move on to the next area. If everyone did that they would find an easier area to target. Cctv will not really deter that much, put a hood hoody on and what use is it? Theives know this. But it's good to have for getting vehicle details or even alerting you that someone is on your property. Good old fashion floodlights as well will help, no thief wants to get caught.
Definitely keep personal information personal. And you certainly don't want to be highlighting to much when your are away etc, but at the same time saying you are at a 1 hour presentation isn't really a big deal. After all, I might go but my partner may stay at home and cook tea or vise versa ;-)

Our house/cars/shed were done 10 times in the first 3 years we lived at our current house and I remember all too well the anguish and heartache it caused.

Not sure if you need to know for numbers for tomorrow night but myself and my friend from the estate can no longer make it. Thanks

At the AMP Technology Centre We will be setting off from the playground at 6:15pm. We are in a conference room upstairs so if you are late just let them know on reception.

Hi, didn't attend this evening due to the PCO's attending my property earlier after my break in over 2 and half weeks ago!! Basically saying get cctv (which we are already in the middle of installing) this doesn't stop them breaking in? It's a deterrent! Police on patrol is a better deferent... ! But as was explained earlier to me... They go off shift at 12?? I made crime scene investigation come to my property and do swabs and fingerprints but nothin back as yer? Just terrible really so have no faith in this route.... ! It may be a car breakin to them but cost is over a £1000 out of our own pockets... Glad to know that the community is sticking together on this thou..! Any news on harworth estates ideas?
