We are currently in the process of buying one of the new hebden houses. We filled out the reservation form 10 ish weeks ago and sorted our mortgage within a week or so. Then instructed our solicitor to do searches. 10+ weeks later (way after the 6 weeks Harron say you have) Harron dont have the titles (whatever they are) and hence we cant do our searches. This initially wasnt a problem as it means I keep my money for longer. Now however it is a problem, Harron are pressing us to pay for any extras that we want now. Ie before we have exchanged contracts. And they have said there are no exceptions regardless of it being all their fault that we cant progress any further.
Obviously there is a chance other people from the latest phase are on here, if so are you going through the same thing?
Everyone else, what are peoples opinions? If I didnt like the house so much I would tell Harron they can go **** themselves, that and I think my better half would disown me!!
It seems alot like Harron are taking the our way or the highway approach.

That's interesting nowait. We are also buying a Hebden but Harron haven't been in touch with us about choosing extras yet. Which plot is yours? :-)

Next door neighbours, we are plot 161! I wonder if I should be worried that Harron haven't been in touch? We were told we would have to choose extras before the roof went on. As of yesterday our roof hadn't been started but plots 158 and 159's had.

Well hello neighbour! Have you been given an estimated completion date? I'm pretty sure the people in office are getting the plots muddled.
We were told ours would be completed on 19th June and completing 3rd July. I'm sceptical.

We were told the house would be completed around 26th June with a moving in date of 'early July'. I didn't believe it possible until recently but they really seem to be moving now don't they?
Our son has got a job in the Winter Green whilst he's at college and every time one of us takes him to work, we have to go and check on the progress of the houses. This means we are down there about 4 times a week.
In answer to your earlier question, it does seem a little excessive making people pay for extras when nothing has actually been signed yet.
I don't know about you nowait but we can't wait to move in :-)

Yeah, I actually work near there so I usually have to drive past on a daily basis. Sad I know but im ok with that!! I cant believe how fast they put the roof trusses (if thats the right word) up. Although I dont believe that in just over a month they can put a roof on, windows in, plumbing, electrics, decorating, kitchen, bathroom etc. As well as tarmac the front and road plus do the landscaping. But would love to be proved wrong. Yeah the wait is killing us, we just keep looking over and over at the drawings trying to see where we can fit things and imagine what it will be like. I think I now know almost every measurement in the house!!

Ha me too! I put a thread in a little while ago about the bathrooms having no windows. I'm not bothered about it but it just seems a bit odd
When you put it like that, its a bit worrying that they are going to be thrown together.
Not sad, I'd be there every day if I could :-)

Yeah I did find that odd too. They could have easily put a window above the toilet in both. We made a suggestion but we were told that it couldn't be changed. It was nice that they took on board no rear garden access and put a door at the back of the garage though.

Yes I think a few of us must have mentioned that. I said I felt it was a health & safety issue as there is no way out of the back gardens in an emergency. We can now exit through the garage. I'm not quite sure where the door will be but I'd like it to be on the side instead of the back as I wiuld like to have a dryer and possibly a freezer in there.

Congratulations the both of you.
We moved in October last year and live just around the corner from your new houses so we have seen them shoot up every day for the last few weeks. We used to pop down at least twice a week to have a nosey at our new build, which was a bit more complicated as it wasn't on an accessible road so I had to sneak through the fences.
Regarding your original question I know how you feel. I ended up paying £8k on extras before we had secured the house via exchanging contracts. It was definitely squeaky bum time for a couple months!
p.s. it's probably worthwhile mentioning that I have since learned that either TW or Barratt allow the extras to be added to the total house price which can be mortgaged and therefore paid for upon completion. Unlike Harron who seem to be inflexible and only allow payment up front.

Hi soon to be neighbours! we've bought plot 158 and were contacted by Rachel yesterday re the extras. We are going on Tuesday to speak with them further regarding them. re the garage door, I think it's going to be at the back of the garage .

Hi again Mr N. Have you been given a completion date for your house? Your roof seems to be going on much more quickly than ours. :-)

Hi Alison, we have not been given a completion date but I am hoping to find out more on Tuesday? I've not been to the house but my partner went over on Friday and said they were on with the roof already! Think this maybe why we received the call from Harrons re the extras.
