Had a locksmith come round this morning who appeared to be going round the estate door to door telling us our locks were unsafe and talking about the recent break ins ... He isn't local and doesn't have a website. Has anyone on the estate used him or recommend him? Was wanting the locks changing but just not sure about someone selling this sort of thing door to door

Nicro used him the other day.
there have been no break ins on the estate. Apart from a report of someone shed having things stolen from it. Although no one ever confirmed whether the shed lock was forced or if the shed was open and someone took the opertunity. and a house on bradfield way had an attempted breack in but that was it.
The locks on the estate are good quality locks (barrats and haron any how, ive been told that TW locks arent to the same spec but haven't seen one to comment).
they do have one design floor though in that they have the thumb wheel so it quite easy to smash tye front door window and then let your self in or depending on your letter box design its possible to put a device through and operate the thumb wheel
a few of us have swapped out the locks for one of equal or better spec lock that has no thumb wheel, I.e need a key both sides to lock and unlock.
that is it, any salesman will use a bit of scare mongering to get a sale...so there is some truth in what he is saying but msybe he is bigging it up to get a sale.
if you or any else is concerned drop me a pm and I'll try and help out :-) swapping the lock is very easy, takes 2 mins
thanks
chris

It's a 2 minute job and you can get a top, top quality British standard kitemarked 3 star rated lock for around £40 It's a maximum of 3 screws to undo, maybe just 1 depending on your handles. Loads of info and tutorials on Yale's website and on Youtube

Yep moved into a TW last month and changed all the locks this week as they were standard euro and defo not anti snap, no Kitemark etc. I got replacements 3 star rated ones from Harolds - I got 1 for the front and 2 for the french doors - about 140 in total for 3 locks, but I had the French door ones keyed alike and quite a few extra keys.
The French door was a bit more fiddly as there is a mullion on the slave door, so I had to drill through that to get to the lock screw, still only took 20 mins or so.

I've had this blokes lock fitted , I've seen him on the estate a few times since going door to door , he has a Facebook page and is called the Garalok Man as he specislises in garage door locks of which he invented himself , he showed me a video on how easy it was to open the thumb lock going through letterbox , he said the doors were good but let down by the poor lock barrel of which he has been changing on various new build sites , I'm happy with the work he did and feel my front door is more secure , I will certainly have him do the French doors

We need to be aware that some people will read on this forum and take opportunities. This. Ok so sometimes these people might be genuine, as it seems with the locksmith mentioned above, but some might not be. We definitely need to be careful as this is a public forum. (Also potential house buyers might read and be put off and we dont want that!)

Are you all paying him £60? You could do it yourselves in 2 minutes, very easy, honestly. Just buy your desired lock from a reputable locksmith / DIY depot (around £30-£40).
