Ha ha. I drive past your house every time to get to mine. I only happened to notice the reg on your car on the drive yesterday and thought that looked familiar. Then realised where from on your forum posts. That's not a bad price from Rich. I've probably spent about £150-£200 on materials. But I do the diy to clear the mind. Also having had some very poor experience of trades in our early married life I now only mostly trust my own work. I know it's done properly. Nowt like doing your own DIY. Happy to give you some help to get you started if you want it no prob. New community spirit et Al. Same for anyone reading this. I suppose it's a bit of a give away using my reg number :-) I just always use it for forums and user names as you can guarantee it's going to be unique. I suppose I didn't think about the fact that I would be exposing my location when I used it for this board. Not that I'm bothered anyway :-) There's not much space at all, but probably enough for a hand full of boxes that we want to get out of the garage. Have a word if you could to see if he would be interested in doing it. No rush.

Not sure what you mean Rich? The solution I used puts zero pressure on the floor and is effectively a floating floor on stilts. Comfortably allows three layers of insulation underneath and protects all energy efficiencies. Well if the stilts are connected to the joists then it's still creating downward pressure which I was told would be risky given how these houses are built. You're probably not likely to fall through but it could cause cracks in the ceiling of upstairs room. They're not designed to take much weight in the loft despite the fact most people want to use it as storage. Harron advised me against it and said you do it as your own risk. That's why ours are secured against the diagonal beams so the weight is more spread out. Oh and we have ventilation in our gable end (see photo) Thanks Rich for the pics. I have no ventilation I'll need to check in on this. Regarding your loft. Has the guy who's done your loft created an elevated floor using only the trusses? I'm guessing he must have placed support underneath the boarding attached to the joists below somewhere across the gap between trusses as it would be unsafe to have a suspension of any boarding without support at maximum 60cm intervals. To be honest I'd be more careful about increasing load on to the trusses (the A pillars). They are built with minimal potential to increase load other than supporting the roof. Lofts are always stipulated with the same caveat ie not for occupation. Storage is accepted as ok and non risk and perfectly in line with regs so long as weight is not OTT and distributed evenly. At the end of the day it's what we each feel comfortable with so I'm not saying one was is better or right over the other. The main thing is whatever the option we are comfortable with the build quality and strength of method. If you're interested here are the loft legs I used. Bought at Wickes so they are well reputed and good for the job. www.loftleg.com/

Way over my head now lol. I just took his advice as he's a joiner. You're welcome to have a look around if it helps at all. We've had it done about 8 months and all is well, no cracks or anything *touches wood*
