Just a quick 'one to watch out for' if you're in the process of buying a Harron Home and have gone for an outside tap as an extra. I'll keep this quick by using bullet points: - We paid for an outside tap.
- We completed on 25th July but didn't move in until 7th August (as we were forced into being on holiday when we comepleted).
- We heard from a neighbour that Harron had been using our outside tap to water 'other peoples' newly laid turf after our completion date.
- I quickly sent an email to Harran to ask when we took ownership of the water costs and they said it would be the 7th Aug when we moved in.
- I've just got my first water bill... and guess what! the water usage starts from the 25th July. In the time before we moved in, Harron had spent £58 watering other peoples grass. Needless to say, they have now got that cost back! :-)
As I say above, just another thing to watch out for.
I don't want to sound like i'm penny pinching, but after getting ripped off by Harron on the day before completion, I don't intend to let them screw me for any more of my money! :-)
PS: Dear neighbours, I should just add that I have no problem with your grass being watered, and YOU (not Harron) are welcome to borrow my hose pipe anytime :-)

That is just out of order on so many levels!
Pleased to hear that you got your money back.
....and I'll be over later to borrow that hose!

The day we completed all meters were read in my presence including water. The person reading the meters added a bit on to each meter reading and commented that he was giving me 3 weeks worth of 'free' water.
By the way, I have an outside tap but it's not working (I've reported it) - is it a case of opening a valve under the sink?

Yep, we did the readings on the day we moved in with harron... However, when the bill came through it still had the wrong reading on it (and the wrong date) so make sure you check :-)
Would be worth looking under the sink to see if there's a valve. Obviously, we didn't have to do anything as ours was 'well used' by the time we moved in!
Let me know if you'd like me to throw our pipe over the wall :-)

Thanks Paul, we've just got topsoil at the moment so no urgency for the garden to be watered - we're just tring to keep the weeds under control.

We we given our meter reading the day we moved in and was told that they had been taken earlier that day.
However, I did have an issue with the Gas Meter. When trying to get quotes, for services, the supplies had a different Serial number for my Gas Meter than the one given by Harron Homes (I was given a document with meters, their readings and serial numbers).
After many phones calls and chasing alot of leads, I was able to confirm that the gas companies had the right number and the monkies at Harron Homes and written down the wrong Serial Number. (Strange thing is that the actual meter has two Serial Numbers on it, so it is understandable, But I would have thought that Harron Homes should have know better!)
As for the outside tap - try traving the line back to under your sink and you should be able to find the Valve. I called a Zanussi engineer out to look at my faulty dishwaser. After opening the water valve under the sink, it worked fine! Oops!
