This is our first winter in our home so have only just got around to using the heating properly. Our downstairs heating is brilliant, but upstairs is permanently cold. The radiators come on but the flame symbol stays on literally for 2 mins despite the temperature set. I can hear the boiler turn off. Anybody any ideas?

Does the thermostat get up to the pre-set temperature or does it switch off before? It could be the positioning of the thermostat. To give an extreme example if you put a thermostat directly above a radiator it would quickly reach temperature but the rest of the house would be cold. Our upstairs is cooler than downstairs but not too bad. You could try turning your radiators down individually downstairs to 2 or 3 and ensure you're upstairs ones are on max and see if that helps there problem.

Walking between the floors is like walking from inside to outside. Thermostat is metres away from a radiator. I'll trying turning downstairs down and see if that helps. Thank you

Are the thermostats mis-wired? When I first moved in I found the living room thermostat controlled the upstairs and the upstairs thermostat controlled the living room. It was a 30 sec job for a man to swap the controls round. A case of the plumber not talking to the electrician!

What type of house do you live in? Ours is over 3 floors (it's a TW Alton) and we have a separate thermostat for the top floor to the rest of the house.

This happened to us too, the upstairs heating never came on, and the downstairs heating never switched off, due to the thermostats controlling them being wired the wrong way round.

All sorted now. It just needed somebody who knew what they were doing to give it a quick service. Thanks everybody. I can recommend James who's advertised on here by one of his friends.
