Hi guys,
My better half is stressing out about the contract exchange date and thinks that if the conveyancing isn't completed in time and we don't exchange on the date specified when we posted the deposit, Barratts will put the plot back up for sale. Has anyone had any experience with going over the specified exchange date for Barratts (hopefully on the side that can provide some reassurance).
Cheers.

Don't know about barratts, but it took us about a week or so longer than expected to exchange with harron and they were fine about it.
My guess would be that as long as they think you are serious about wanting to buy, then they will be understanding (within reason).

Ours went back about 3 weeks, mainly due to solicitors, Harron involved every stage, off threats from head office sales director but everyone else on board.

Barratt's told us 4weeks as well, I told them that was optimistic...we used their recommended solicitors etc (which were very good) and it still took 6weeks...
we had no threats to put the house back on the market..We acted on everything the day it came through etc, but everything takes time, mortgage applications now take 2weeks+
the last thing we were waiting for was for barratts to sign the house off before we could complete...that happened on the Wednesday...we completed on the Thursday :-D
You'll be fine :-D

Thanks everyone.
I don't think we'll be far off the original date, but you know how stressful these things can be.
Much appreciated.

We found the whole process very stress free to be fair...everything went to plan all be it a couple of weeks later than originally proposed
We part exchanged our old property and barratt's let us exchange and complete the day before we moved and granted us a licence to occupy our old property for one extra night...that ment that the moving day was very easy as well...no waiting on the driveway with a van full of gear waiting for a phone call to say we could move in.
The barratt's recommended solicitors were also spot on and well priced :-D and new homes mortgages kept us well informed.
You will be fine :-D
Thanks
Chris

I went over by about two or three weeks (for things that were beyond my control) and had no problems with Barratts. I asked the solicitor if we should do something to as the deadline sailed past but they said I needn't worry as it happened a lot.

All moved in and extremely happy. Would recommend Barratts, they have been very good. Now all we have to stress about is flat pack furniture and what on earth is in all these boxes.... It's a mystery to me how you can move from a house with no garage, and have boxes labelled 'garage'..... *
