I think the 72 bus service from the estate to Sheffield and back is appalling.
I don’t think it’s good enough that we have a half an hour to 45 minutes service especially during peak times i.e. mornings and evenings especially with the size of our estate and having kids.
There is no inclination either to improve the service as SYPT are falling back on the budget excuse and the lack of demand.
In the background I have contact Harworth estates who have said the following: The routes are privately run and an increase in service needs to be economically viable to the bus companies. That said, we are actively talking to first group at the moment about bringing the number 72 bus directly into the site with a stop on Highfield Lane and also on Mitchell Way. We are waiting to hear back from them at the moment but hopefully this will happen later this year.
My response to Harworth Estates is that because the bus is so irregular there won’t be great demand as people would rather drive than wait for a services that might turn up of which the argument goes round in a circle again as demand is low - but will always remain low because of its infrequency!
I think as many of us on the estate should try and push the issue with our MP – it’s the same with a bus shelter why don’t we have a bus shelter again no incentive to catch the bus especially in winter.

I think the transport interchange was removed from the plans some time ago and I am interested in understanding what bringing the bus into the estate will do other than cause more problems on the already crowded roads and i would love to see a bus get down some of these roads!
What we need is a more frequent service, especially in the mornings and evenings. When we came to see the house in 2012 we were sold by the transport links and buses, school and green spaces, especially as I like others, don't drive. Now I find myself walking over a mile to school on a foot path out of the back of the estate that is going to be unlit and unsafe very soon. I then run from the school to attempt to catch a bus that, if missed, means a 30 minute wait.
I just don't know why this was sold as anything other than a massive housing estate.

Hi and thanks for your post, I feel better knowing there are a few of us struggling. Thanks for the update on the interchange as wel. Yip we too were sold on the "green" estate and good transport link. Not sure why we have to be dependant on 1 bus only? Why can't they re-route the 52? There are loads of those and they are really frequent.
I'm going to try and keep pushing but again if many of us try and push together maybe someone will listen.
Maybe we should try Look North? Maybe then someone will listen..... so frustrating!

I feel the same about the transport links. Given that the transport links at Handsworth are excellent I'm surprised another existing service hasn't been extended. I was told that the train would stop at Waverley in the near future (at Handsworth where the bridge already exists) but I've heard little about this since moving. I have noticed on many occasions a red TM bus on Highfield spring - does anyone know if this is an active service? I only ever see it sat at the stop, empty.

The TM bus is the A1 waverley to meadowhall route which runs via the airport business park and shepcote lane.
It's not only the reliability that puts people off using the 72 it also the location of the stops its a ten minute walk from the newer parts of the estate and once they close the footpath for the next harron phase it'll be even worse for all the estate. Relocating the stops nearer to the roundabouts would help to start with.

The A1 used to run to Sheffield and rotherham but was ousted by first who introduced the 72. The A1 was 10 minutes faster into sheff at least. It still goes to meadowhall.
I've heard trams , trains and everything but a space port. I suspect we've been told whatever to get us to buy.

I agree with the re-routing of some services as there is also the 40 to Catcliffe which goes passed Morrisons, I'm sure they can try and incorporate us.
I also tried to apply for a bus shelter to SYPT and again it was put down to budgets.
I'm going to keep persevering as best I can but just not sure where to go with it so that we're heard.
Winterfell if you do cont the Rotherham Star please be kind enough to let us know what they say and I'll do the same if I have news from elsewhere.

I agree, I would use the bus more if I knew that it would turn up. More than once had to wait for more than an hour in town, especially if you catch from arundal gate. I know people have said it is not far to walk to the bus stop etc. But when you have kids with you or have a walk at the other end it can be a factor too. We were also told about all the transport etc. And with the limited parking were going to try to run just one car, but after the unreliability of the bus while I was heavily pregnant we ended up with two cars! .

As an example of utter stupidity, the only two buses that run from the schools in catcliffe area go within 2 minutes of each other. Miss one;miss both. It's not difficult this, is it?

The 72 and 72a no longer run from Arundel Gate - you have to get them from the bus interchange.
