I found a spade on the wasteland in front of Lescar Road. Not the kind of thing one usually misplaces... Free to a good home.

Only one way to find out! With the amount of detritus in that field, maybe I should take up metal detecting? Certainly keep me out of mischief over the summer.

Probably discarded when the owner realised it's impossible to dig the ground they provided in your "garden" without a JCB.

To add to this - I know Orgreave was an opencast mine, and we did manage to dig actual coal up in our garden. The worst bit though was the 4 inch of clay, like the stuff schools use - did anyone else have that? We had to do some serious digging before putting plants in to ensure we hit soil so they'd live. No wonder Barratts stuck that crappy pea pebble down around the houses on Highfield lane - to cover it up. We just hated it from day 1 and had to replace it.

Hi Shaun & Craig - i've also encountered the clay when trying to do some digging/gardening. I think this is farily common throughout Waverley. Did you actually manage to get through it then to good soil below? We dug for several inches but couldn't find an end to it. Perhaps I should have kept digging, but it could have gone on for metres for all i know.

Yes, under the clay we had limestone and then eventually soil - had to go down about a foot or so, and a pick axe helps.

Harron told us they were going to add drainage and relay the turf in the rear. This was 6 months ago now and nothing has materialised (besides having now a fifth site manager )
