In theory everyone is meant to keep the appearance of their home for a period of time according to the covenants made as part of the house purchase. In practice there have been some homes who have amended their driveways, even converted their garage to a living space. Nothing has been done to enforce the contract. If I needed to I certainly wouldn't have any concern about extended or changing my driveway.

Oh thank you bish Ww haven't even moved in yet, and I don't think it will be something that we can afford straight away! But it good to know that is an option if parking on our road is a problem! X

X No problem happy to help. I walk the dog regularly around the development and it has been fascinating to see how it has progressed in the last 15 months since we moved in (Oct 14). I've seen houses build up and then once built some of the owners haven't wasted any time in amending the front of their property. I have seen some driveways being extended so I don't think you'll have any problems.

We're in a Harron home and extended our drive about a year ago to make it wide enough for 2 cars.
Didn't seek any permission (I'm of the 'it's my home I'll do what I want to it' frame of mind!)
I do find it quite strange why Harron only seem to build driveways big enough for 1 and half cars though when the majority of family's on here have two cars.
We did this ourselves (well with the help of family in the trade).

My only concern is our front garden is connected to our neighbours! So not sure if they will be happy if it's not a mirror image!

It bothers me a little that most working families now probably have two cars (especially if you live on Waverley) but from what I've seen only 4 bed houses seem to have double driveways. It would make sense to maybe ask the family or couple or individual if they want less of a front garden and more parking. I live on Matlock Way and it's quite a busy road with a fair few cars on the 'kerb' (there is no actual kerb as it is a raised road which looks lovely.) I'm still shocked at how many people park on the corners of junctions on this estate, not necessarily Matlock but everywhere.

I think parking causes so many problems you would think they would make sure every house had plenty of room to park, in my opinion front gardens are wasted space! Our house is four bed but still only drive space for one car! Really lets the house down to be honest!

We definitely need our driveway extending we live on Waverley walk and it's already a pain for parking during the day, people always park behind their drives on the path so I have to walk on the road with the pram when I take the baby out which is kinda bad... I don't blame people though as it's ridiculous that 4 bedroomed family houses are only expected to have one car!

Went down Waverley Walk the other day getting concerned about the fact we will only have a drive for one car. I have asked in the sales office they won't change the plans for drives not even for a price. Been thru a new ish Harron Homes estate near Wakefield today, every house as got a double drive, including the same house as ours. Don't understand this decision at all for Waverley. What's interesting is in first phases 2 and 3 bed semis have double drive ways. Walk around the estate at the centre and you can see. Now it's rare for a 4 bed detached to have little more than 1.5 car drive way. It's all about density ratios. Planning permission and council drive is to have a defined house quota per hectare. I believe developers are now playing catch up by compacting the houses in. Less garden and driveway size.

Yeah I had a good walk round last week and I had noticed that nearly everyone on the earlier phases have double drives. Guess I will have to add this to the things to do list....

The front gardens are plenty big enough to expand although.. It would be pretty awkward getting on and off as there's black metal fencing either side of the drive ways. I'm pretty sure the shrubs they have planted will be no more when people get fed up of parking and just pop up on the curb. Also makes it hard to reverse off driveways when cars are behind you (again I can't blame people as we all have no other choice) it's easier to reverse onto the drive for a quick exit
