Hi,
This is kind of sports-related; I was wondering what local gyms people go to and whether there are any that people would recommend?
I'm cutrently at SIV at the EIS and my membership is up for renewal, so was wondering if there are any better options? I'm mainly looking for a gym close to home that offers classes like spinning and body pump?
Thanks

myself and Dave S go to xercise4less.co.uk/ in Rotherham they do spinning as that's all i go for. but there is a time table on the site somewhere that shows all the classes...Not 100% sure but they may even do a free 1 day pass to try it out. Cheers Chris

I go to the holiday inn at the end of the parkway (Rotherham end).
It's local, easy to get to, easy to park, it has a very good size pool, it's got a jaccusi steam and sauna, the gym is not the biggest but you can always get on the machines.
Most of all though, there are no 'look at me' 'numpties there. At least when I go in the morning before work. A really nice friendly atmosphere!

Oh... And it's £35 a month but if you pay for the year in advance you can get it for £365. A pound a day! :-)

Oh... Just read your post again... They do a few classes (Zumba/circuit etc) but I don't think they do spin...

X4L is only £9.99 a month if you just want classes. No pool.

I go to Hilton Living Well. End of parkway Sheffield side. 5-10 mins traffic depending. £40 pm. Everything you could want with classes (inc spin), pool, sauna, steam, lots of CV and lots of weights.

X4L has been a nightmare lately, so withdrawing my recommendation! Some members moving to Pure Gym in Sheffield.

I don't do gyms but have recently started up swimming seriously again. I've tried most of the SIV sites:-
Springs Academy - pros:- close, usually quite an empty pool. Cons - lane swimming is at unsociable hours, 20 metre pool Graves Leisure Centre:- Pros:- seemed to be a 'fast pool', I set a big PB there. Cons:- cold changing rooms, lukewarm showers Concord - Pros:- warm large changing room, decent sized lockers, good schedule for lane swimming, pretty empty pool if you're prepared to go late. Cons - quite far away Ponds Forge - Pros:- regular 50m lane swim sessions. Cons - more expensive than the other choices.

That's why I like holiday inn rotherham. You get the gym and the pool for £1 a day. Pool isn't the biggest in the world but it's good enough. Plus it opens at 6am and closes at 10pm. Easy to get to, lots of free parking & good set of people. Down side is there's only a few classes a week and they're extra. If anyone ever wants to give it a go let me know and I'll try to arrange a freebie :-)
