First post... I am 99% positive Waverley has been accepted as a new dwelling in Rotherham, not sure how planning permission works with the local councils but at the moment my well earned cash goes to Orgreave rather than Catcliffe. I hope I am right as the village identity of Waverley was a massive factor of moving here

I hope I am right as the village identity of Waverley was a massive factor of moving here You live in Waverley and don't see yourself as part of another place, your home is Waverley... Why would you see yourself as part of catcliffe which is a seperate place down the road? I can understand you feeling like that as you live here in waverley... What I can't understand is why someone would be so bothered about this seperate place being labelled part of there clearly seperate village? Why are they so keen? If their that bothered they could just move here to waverley ;-) We must be a lovely place :-)

Don't get too serious nightowl, it's just banter lol. Your homes have already been the scene of one battle, we don't need another. There does seem to be an undercurrent of being ashamed of living in Catcliffe however. We're not that bad really you know. I have at least one bath a week in the river.

It's all just good fun and banter! But we are not part of Catcliffe :-P

Pld , I'm just interested , whats the general attitude to Waverley as a whole amongst you locals ? Is there undercurrent of resentment because of the miners or do people just don't really give a toss , I'm a sheffielder so I wpuldnt know its just a got speaking to a lady at morrisons and she was local and told me the ground has been filled with ' toxic waste' now obviously this is bs , so are we accepted or are we illegal aliens!!!

Nick, 1.9million cubic meters of containment soil was moved from the amp site to back fill the open cast workings...maybe this the toxic waste they refer to???
But if they give you too much stick next time you're buying your groceries you could remind them that at least we don't have to panic everytime it starts to rain ;-)

I can't speak for everyone of course. Newcomers to established communities always incur resentment. ('You' will say you're not part of an established community of course. Personally I think we're too apart to be one community, depends if you build down to the Recreation Ground and so bridging the gap so to speak. We have Blue Mans Way and Olivers Way and although not absolutely brand new are still not part of the village. You'll probably know there are two further developments to be tagged on to Blue Mans. (Details on Friends of Catcliffe). Speaking with my Friends Of Catcliffe hat on, our remit is to try and bring all the village together as one community and if you're nice to us I hope that will include you. Re the land. I'm not getting into discussions with quantity surveyors and such like on here. But it is industrial land and was mostly used for chemicals and waste from processes, as well as coal of course. You wouldn't believe the state of the River Rother. I certainly didn't bath in it then lol. The site was reportedly detoxified. I can't dispute that and I'm not getting involved. The story in the village is that a great deal of it was capped by concrete and is still there under your homes. I don't know if that's true but that's where comments like that from the Morrisons lady spring from. Of course if it is true then the ones who will suffer most will be residents in Catcliffe due to the washdown. So if the fish in the river are lying on the top fully cooked, start to worry lol. Gawd that was a bit serious??? There was a young man from Waverley..... ?? lol.

All just healthy banter :-D and I don't blame the catcliffe people for not associating with the blue man's way people...I know some of the residents on blue man's way, lol....only messing they are good people really.

Pld - great to see you're getting the spirit of things... A lessor person would have been tipped over the edge by now! :-)
PS: I used to live on Oliver's way (and then nickleby court)... but managed to 'escape' :-)

I heard quite a few had applied from Olivers Way lol. It was always farmland in times gone by. Anyway here goes. There was a young man from Wavely Glad to have moved over from Stavely But he became vexed and insane At the folk down the lane And now he’s feeling quite gravely. I'm here all week Now I've got your attention - Anybody want to give a hand planting hundreds of spring bulbs round our village this weekend? Full details at www.friendsofcatcliffe.org.uk/ Might have to change that to Friends of Catcliffe and Waverly lol. Oh another thing, we don't get on with Treeton and Brinsworth either. (Not really lol).

What about treeton lol
We were constantly lied to about what was going on at the orgreave. Right up to the point where they(local council) were denying buildings being built as they started to lay foundations. There not building on orgreave they kept saying. I knew full well they were as I saw plans years ago. Hs2 going straight throug, down side of river, as it goes, they still denying this now, but it was decided a long long time ago.
Be careful what you wish for. Long term plans for Waverley is to build an agenda 21 compliant self sustainable settlement where they can, if needs be, lock themselves away from outside world. Just imagine the labyrinth under there.

I don't think there's resentment towards Waverley residents, more to the ones who lied and denied and now every morning the views from our windows are becoming building site and development, more houses and factories to design high powered bae systems rail guns lol
