Just wondering which (if any) gym people are members of on the forum. I'm still a member of Virgin Active on Broadfield Road but since moving to Waverley it's not exactly "convenient". As much as I love the place, I could do with finding something closer to home without having to drive through the centre of Sheffield.
Can anyone recommend a local gym? There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of choice.

I go to the holiday inn just over the parkway towards Rotherham.
Quite a small place but has all the equipment you need and a large swimming pool with sauna steam room and Jacussi. It's nice and quiet in the mornings and it's a good bunch of friendly people.
It takes 5 mins to get there in the morning when I go.
If you're interested I could probably get you a weeks trial :-)
Cheers Paul

I used to go to Rotherham leisure centre. Swimming was OK and the gym was quite quiet however now just end going (well the wife drags me to) to ponds forge as the equipment and technology is much better and it's cheaper.
I'm not really a gym person but much prefer ponds forge over Rotherham leisure centre.

I go to 'The Gym' on Derek Dooley / Gibraltar Street which is £13 month rolling contract, has loads of machines and is never full or mega busy.

I use EIS next to the old Don Valley arena, but signing up to this also gives you access to Hillsborough, Concord & Ponds Forge...
I think it is around £30 a month... takes 10mins from our estate.
If you're after a 'real' gym there is a new one called S20 Physique which is on Holbrook again £30 a month.

Try the new place "our gym jakobol" it's on the Handsworth estates opposite the carvery pub up there. £5 a week no contracts etc. Offer personal training and set up training programmes etc. Seen some pictures on their facebook page looks like a small but very good set up - all spanking new gear. I will be heading that way soon myself if opening times are convenient for me ) Very close by.

Has anyone thought of doing their own on here in a garage? Just an idea. Would get to know more people on the estate. Or if anyone's a personal trainer for fitness classes. Just an idea I'm throwing out there xx

the thought has crossed my mind many a time but then the thought of the cost of kitting it out with commercial equipment (even used) for what I want is very expensive..... have to keep dreaming of winning the lottery, despite not actually playing it ha ha

I know something like that would be quite expensive to set up. It was just an idea. xx

If anyone's got the balls to do it then I reckon a little gym on Waverley in the Commercial Centre would be a nice little earner.

I would if I was into that sort of thing, I think there are lots of opportunities for a lot of people on Waverley as there's nothing much around and everyone these days wants things within reach. I'll be having a photography studio once Harron have sorted themselves out, I had one where we lived last that was brilliant. But anyone who has skills should think about opportunities sooner rather than later. I don't know where the nearest gym is but a lot of people on the estate will go to a gym so nearer has to be better than further away xx

There is somebody who does it in their garage already, I remember a flyer coming out. Can't remember the name.

Depends what you want in a gym. I use x4l (xercise4less) in Rothetham, it's a pure gym, no swimming or sauna. It has several Les Mills classes on throughout each day which are mainly free as part of your membership. They currently have an offer of £20 joining and on-peak membership for £9.99/m as copied below. It's had its ups and downs but for the money it's pretty good.

A gym on the estate would be so convenient! Surely with all the homes in the pipeline, as well as the existing homes (!) there would be enough call for one? Though maybe there would be a gym in the hotel that is in the commercial plans..
